A Song of degrees. Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
King James Version
Behold, as the eyes of servants [look] unto the hand of their masters, [and] as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes [wait] upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
American Standard Version
Behold, as the eyes of servants [look] unto the hand of their master, As the eyes of a maid unto the hand of her mistress; So our eyes [look] unto Jehovah our God, Until he have mercy upon us.
New English Translation
Look, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female servant look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes will look to the LORD, our God, until he shows us favor.
World English Bible
Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to Yahweh, our God, until he has mercy on us.

Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, [and] with the contempt of the proud.

A Song of degrees of David. If [it had not been] the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

If [it had not been] the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
3
Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
4
Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
5
Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
6
Blessed [be] the LORD, who hath not given us [as] a prey to their teeth.
7
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
8
Our help [is] in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
